Job Description

Overview:

JOB DUTIES:

 

A professional multi skilled person dedicated to assisting in all aspects of medical practice including administrative and clinical processes. Assisting clinicians with patient care by controlling in-basket task management. Responsible for first level of monitoring, triaging, and evaluation of all messages within the centralized in-baskets. Completing and documenting all messaging within the scope of a certified MA; routing all others to appropriate team members as needed based on department or practice protocols.

 

Essential Functions:

 

Responsible for the managing, screening and triaging of all in-basket messages utilizing standing orders and triage protocols

 

Reviews in-basket tasks and pends lab orders, referrals, and medications as appropriate for the completion of tasks based on department and practice guidelines.

 

Monitors and responds to all in basket tasks to ensure completion within organizational standards. Ensures timely processing and follow-up of in-basket messages within set guidelines.

 

Obtains appropriate input and direction from provider as needed to determine best clinical course of action for specific in basket tasks. Routes tasks appropriately to the APP II Clinical In-Basket Panel Manager and/or RN In Basket Triage Nurse as needed.

 

Schedule follow up visit according to follow up plan and based on necessity and acuity, by offering the earliest appointment available.

 

Screens and responds to patient phone calls and MyChart messages as directed by protocol. Accurately documented each encounter in the EMR providing appropriate follow up as necessary.

 

Correctly documents all entries in the medical record, either electronics or hard copy, to include signature, date and time.

 

Participates in performance improvement projects and participates as an active care team member in the coordination of patient care. Provides a standard of excellence as it relates to customer service for patients, staff members, and other customers.

 

Communicates with all stakeholders, staff, providers, and patients as appropriate and per protocols.
Performing all the above while maintaining your patient’s privacy, confidentiality, safety, and adhering to ethical, legal, and accreditations/regulatory standards at all times.

Qualifications:

SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS, AND REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

 

Communication
• Ability to communicate effectively and courteously, both orally and in writing.
Organization/Prioritization
• Ability to organize and prioritize assignments to work independently as well as a collaborative team member.
Training/Support
• Knowledge of ambulatory health care or related health care field.
Customer Service
• Ability to provide dynamic customer service using various techniques including positive language, calming presence, attentiveness, clear communication, and patience.
Typing (WPM)
• Ability to accurately record/transcribe information.
Medical Terminology
• Working knowledge of medical terminology and accepted abbreviations.
Computers/Technology
• Proficient in use of a Windows OS computer, MS office suite, and Internet research.
Attention to Detail
• Attention to detail and quality of work.
Teamwork
• Ability to work collaboratively with all members of health care team and other clinical services.

 

Education Requirements:

 

High School Diploma or GED equivalent required
Bachelors preferred

** Additional Details **
A requirement of having completed an MA program that is accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies, a national or state medical association, or an agency approved by the board.

 

Certification/Licensure Requirements

 

Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) preferred
Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) required or within 6 months
